The first trees of 2016, planted in Gran Canaria

Yesterday we planted the first trees of 2016, in Finca de Osorio, Las Palmas Gran Canaria.
One year before just on this day, I could not imagine that i will come to other corner of the earth from Central Asian Mongolia and will plant the trees in Gran Canaria. Thanks for the opportunity which gives me this chance for being part of the Erasmus Mundus project and participate in a green activity.  .
Three months have passed already since I arrived in Las Palmas. Meanwhile studying on my research, my hobby makes me to connect to the like- minded people.

It surprised that I was first of Mongols who planted trees in this island. It seems that a very few people come from Mongolia to these islands.
In early morning we departed from Las Palmas and arrived to the area named Finco de Osorio located in Tero. This is a forestry field for restoration owned by the local municipal of Gran Canaria.

Sergio Armas, CEO of Fundación FORESTA says that this area was covered by thick of palm trees when Spanians came to settle here. After a short time whole forest gradually destroyed by human activity and then later restored again. The evergreen tropical palm trees were decorative to surroundings of native beauty and its appearance like that has never been destroyed by the hand of man before.

These nice and comfortable surroundings have few workers to take care of the trees and bushes. In the subtropical areas planting trees is a little bit different than our country. From October until May is good time for planting trees here. Now, the winter is less rain so the most appropriate time to do it. Today outside temperature is + 22. In winter, at the area Las Palmas the lower temperature is +15 degrees, only once, two years ago reached +10, even there happened it was snow in the mountains. People say this winter is warmer than the past few years. It was true, indeed.  While i traveling in German during the Christmas, the flowers in the streets were blossomed and people surprised to see them

Since humans could not control climate change, the only way is we have to adapt to it and try to keep as less damage as possible in the nature. Therefore, in a place that has been destroyed already, a man can do restoration and plant trees there. That is the only opportunity for everyone to contribute.

Today's "main force" for planting trees activity was over 30 children in 8-year-old and 3 teachers guide them.
Before starting the activity, Sergio Armas, the manager of Fundación FORESTA, gives the instructions how to plant a trees and at the end he showed the protector made by plastic and asked to children:

"For what should be protect them?" and
One little boy: "..from sex"…
Another one said "...from Giraffe".
Sergio Armas: "Has a giraffe in our country?"
Children:  “NO oooooo.." J
So, by that way, we are 3, /one little girl and one little boy/ planted 3 trees.
In favorable weather conditions where whole year sunny and warm it seems that plants grows spontaneously by itself.
